Kimpton set to debut in Marrakech with new luxury hotel by 2026

A new name in luxury hospitality is preparing to make its debut in Marrakech. IHG Hotels & Resorts, the British hotel group behind global brands like InterContinental and Holiday Inn, has announced a franchise agreement with Mehdi Bennani Smires, the owner of Sirayane Hospitality, to launch Morocco’s very first Kimpton hotel. The partnership was made official on Tuesday, signaling IHG’s intent to expand its presence in high-potential destinations.

Set to open in the final months of 2026, the future Kimpton Marrakech will feature 67 rooms and will be located about 20 minutes south of the bustling medina, near Marrakech-Menara Airport. The hotel will rise in a fast-developing area that’s quickly becoming a magnet for luxury projects catering to travelers seeking tranquility and upscale comfort away from the city’s vibrant core.

This move marks a new chapter for Mehdi Bennani Smires, already known for running the Sirayane Boutique Hotel. By aligning with Kimpton, he’s deepening his footprint in the high-end hospitality space. Known for its distinct lifestyle philosophy, Kimpton has built a reputation since its founding in 1981 for blending design-forward aesthetics with immersive guest experiences and strong local ties.

The upcoming property in Marrakech is set to offer more than just stylish rooms. Plans include a spacious lobby lounge, a wellness-focused spa, a fully equipped fitness center, multiple pools, and a rooftop restaurant with panoramic views. Designed to appeal not just to international guests but also to local residents, the hotel aims to position itself as a vibrant social hub within the city.

For IHG, this marks a strategic push into markets with strong growth potential. Marrakech, with its mix of culture, architecture, and rising demand for premium hospitality, presents an ideal backdrop for a brand like Kimpton, which thrives on creating spaces that feel both luxurious and rooted in their environment. For Sirayane Hospitality, this collaboration represents a step up in scale and ambition, further highlighting Marrakech’s ongoing allure in the competitive world of luxury travel.
