Stade Rennais has officially signed Moroccan forward Yassir Zabiri from Portuguese side Famalicão in a deal worth around €10 million. The 20-year-old, who shone at the recent U20 World Cup, joins the French club on a contract until June 2029.

Zabiri, a product of Morocco’s Mohammed VI Football Academy, spent nine years in the academy before making a mark on the world stage. At the U20 World Cup in Chile, he finished as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals and helped Morocco reach the final, scoring twice against Argentina.

The young striker will wear the number 77 shirt at Rennes and link up with fellow Moroccan Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal. Speaking about his move, Zabiri said he had “chosen the ideal environment to progress” and credited advice from Nayef Aguerd and Aït Boudlal in his decision.

Last season, Zabiri played 12 league games for Famalicão, scoring four goals, and made two appearances in the Portuguese Cup
