Morocco is making train travel cheaper for passengers with disabilities, rolling out a new travel card that cuts fares by 50%. The discount also applies to companions of visually impaired travellers. The scheme went fully live on 2 February 2026.

The move comes from a partnership between the Moroccan National Railways Office (ONCF) and the State Secretariat for Social Inclusion to make train travel more affordable and improve access for everyone.

ONCF has also improved station access with ramps and tactile paving.

The launch has already sparked a rush of interest. Over 5,000 people have applied through the government’s digital IDMAJ platform, and more than 3,200 cards have been printed. For those who can’t get online, physical cards are being handed out at Entraide Nationale centres across the country.

To get a card, applicants need a valid Disability Certificate, a digital photo, and details about any companions if relevant. People without a certificate can apply through the “Khadamaty” portal with a medical file and national ID.

This scheme is part of Framework Law 97.13 and fits with the National Integrated Public Policy (2017–2026), moving the country towards a rights-based approach for disability.
