Irish mining company Talisman Metals PLC has signed a deal to buy the Tirzite copper project in Morocco from a fully owned unit of Aya Silver & Gold Inc..
The Tirzite site includes two exploration licences covering 16.5 square kilometres in the wider Agadir mining area, about 225 km east of Agadir. It is around 85 km north-east of Talisman’s current Tizert project.
The project is believed to contain layers of copper and silver in the ground. It sits in the same rock formation as other copper and silver deposits in the region.
One of the best-known nearby sites is the Tizert copper and silver mine. It is estimated to hold about 130 million tonnes of mineral resources and is now starting commercial production.
Talisman Metals already owns several licences around Tizert, grouped under the Tizert project. Buying Tirzite would increase its land holdings in the area as it looks to expand its operations in Morocco.
