Morocco saw a strong rise in mobile internet speeds in 2025, with average download speeds reaching 124.32 megabits per second, according to the Ookla Speedtest Global Index.

This makes Morocco the fastest in North Africa for mobile internet. The country also climbed 22 places in the global ranking to 39th. It now ranks ahead of Algeria and Tunisia.

The rise in speed comes after the launch of 5G at the end of last year. The new network has made internet connections faster and more stable, the data shows.

Home internet has also improved. Fibre optic cables have been expanded in several cities and regions, helping to improve connection quality and reduce delays.

Morocco chose a different way to roll out 5G. Unlike some countries, it did not mix 5G with older 4G frequencies. This choice is expected to give better speeds and handle more users in the future.

The improvements are part of a wider plan to upgrade the country’s digital systems. Officials hope a better internet will support innovation and bring more investment into the telecom sector.
