Two Moroccan forwards playing in Germany have been included in the preliminary squad list for the national team as coach Mohamed Ouahbi looks to inject youth into Morocco’s attack.
German newspaper Bild reported that 21-year-old forwards Ayoub Amimouni and Younes Ebnoutalib are among the players being monitored for future call-ups.
Both joined Eintracht Frankfurt during the January transfer window, as Morocco increasingly scouts young players emerging in Germany’s professional leagues.
Ebnoutalib arrived from SV Elversberg for €8m after scoring 12 goals in the German second division during the 2025-26 season. The striker, who stands 1.91m tall, recorded a shot accuracy rate of 76.9% and a top speed of 31.2 km/h.
He scored on his debut for Frankfurt against Borussia Dortmund and later appeared for 20 minutes against VfB Stuttgart before suffering a knee ligament injury. The injury has ruled him out of Frankfurt’s last 10 matches across all competitions.
Despite the setback, he remains on Morocco’s preliminary list as part of the long-term plans for the national team’s striker position.
Amimouni, a winger, joined Frankfurt from the reserve side of TSG Hoffenheim. Since his January move, he has made nine competitive appearances and scored his first goal for the club.
The winger is known for his pace, reaching a recorded top speed of 34.43 km/h. He has also made more than 300 high-intensity runs this season, averaging about 34 per match.
Another Moroccan prospect attracting attention in Germany is midfielder Sofiane El Faouzi, who plays for Schalke 04.
El Faouzi has become a regular in midfield, making more than 2,200 minutes of appearances this season. He has won 318 tackles and provided four assists while covering some of the highest distances recorded across Germany’s top three leagues.
On March 5, the FRMF announced that Mohamed Ouahbi replaced Walid Regragui as head coach. Regragui led Morocco to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals and a runner-up finish at the 2025 AFCON, but the federation is seeking a “tactical evolution” ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Ouahbi comes off a major success, having led Morocco’s U20 squad to a World Cup title last year.
His first task is the upcoming international break, where he is expected to integrate fresh talent from that U20 team into the senior squad. Morocco will face two South American opponents to simulate the “physicality and intensity” expected against Brazil in the World Cup opener.
The first game will be against Ecuador on March 27 at the Cívitas Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Spain. Ecuador coach Sebastián Beccacece described the match as an “utmost test” with an atmosphere similar to the World Cup. The second match is against Paraguay on March 31 in Lens, France
