State offices and local authorities in Morocco will be closed on Monday, 23 March, for Eid Al-Fitr.

The government said the decision follows existing rules for public holidays and leave under Article 3 of Decree No. 2-05-916 of 20 July 2005, as amended.

Eid Al-Fitr in Morocco is expected on Saturday, 21 March, following a full 30-day Ramadan. Astronomers say the crescent moon likely won’t appear on 19 March, which would make Saturday the official start of the celebration.

The exact Eid date will be officially confirmed by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs after the moon sighting on the 29th day of Ramadan.

Morocco will switch back to GMT+1 on Sunday, 22 March, right in the middle of the festivities.
