The Guinean Football Federation (FGF) has denied claims that it is challenging the result of its 1976 Africa Cup of Nations match against Morocco.
In a statement, the FGF said it has “not started any process” with either the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) or the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the tournament.
The federation said recent posts on social media suggesting Guinea wants to dispute the match result are “wrong” and “have no official basis.” They said the statement is meant to clear up confusion.
The FGF also reminded fans about the match on 14 March 1976 in Addis Ababa. Guinea scored first in the 33rd minute through Chérif Souleymane. Morocco equalised in the 86th minute with a goal from Ahmed Makrouh, known as “Baba,” leaving the game 1-1.
They explained that the tournament had no final. After the group stage, teams played a round-robin final group, with the top team becoming champion. Morocco finished first and were officially crowned champions, while Guinea came second.
The federation stressed it respects the historical facts and rules of the time. It urged media and others to check information before sharing and avoid causing confusion.
The FGF said it remains committed to fair play, respect, and unity in African football.
