Lyon will host the One Health Summit from 5 to 7 April 2026, a major global meeting held under France’s G7 presidency and organised together with Indonesia. The event aims to bring together rich and emerging countries to tackle growing health threats around the world.

The summit is built around the “One Health” idea, which links human, animal, and environmental health. Experts say about 60% of human infectious diseases come from animals. Backed by the WHO, FAO, WOAH, and UNEP, the approach focuses on preventing health crises before they happen by protecting the natural environments that act as barriers against disease.

Key topics include spotting viruses early that can jump from animals to people, especially as deforestation and city growth increase risks. Antimicrobial resistance is also a concern, with experts warning that untreated drug-resistant infections could kill up to 10 million people a year by 2050. Pollution of air, water, and soil, and its effects on food and health, will also be discussed.

Lyon was chosen because it is a world centre for infectious disease research, hosting the CIRI research centre and the Jean Mérieux P4 lab. The summit will bring together leaders, scientists, international organisations, business representatives, and civil society to turn ideas into real action and funding.

The impact of the summit will continue until 15 May with more than 170 related events across France and around the world
