Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia Compared in Latest Happiness Survey

Morocco’s position in the World Happiness Report 2026 hasn’t changed, ranking 112th out of 147 countries. The country hasn’t made much progress over the past two years, and its best ranking was about ten years ago. Finland is the happiest country for the ninth year in a row.

The report, from the University of Oxford, looks at income, health, social support, personal freedoms, and trust in government. In the Middle East and North Africa, Morocco is 14th out of 18, behind Algeria and Tunisia but ahead of Jordan and Egypt.

The study shows young people’s happiness has dropped over the last 15 years. Social media use is partly to blame, with heavy scrolling linked to more stress and mental health problems. Only about 15% of Moroccans use social media a lot, lower than some nearby countries like Lebanon, where it’s nearly 45%.

The report says money alone doesn’t explain how happy people feel anymore. Social life and what young people expect from life now play a bigger role.
