The Moroccan National Tourist Office has signed a deal with Canal+ to promote Morocco as a top golf travel destination through a new TV show called Izi Driver Maroc.

The show will air on Canal+ Golf from mid-April and is aimed at viewers in Europe and other international markets.

French comedian and actor Thomas Séraphine will host the series. It will include eight episodes, each lasting 15 minutes, following a golf road trip across Morocco. The programme will visit Marrakech, Rabat, Casablanca, El Jadida, Agadir, Taghazout, Fès, Tangier and Saïdia.

The series will not focus only on golf. It will also show Moroccan food, culture and lifestyle to attract both golf fans and luxury travellers.

The project is part of the tourism office’s “Light in Action” plan for 2023 to 2026. The plan focuses on marketing, digital tools, flight connections and travel distribution. Officials want to use high-quality TV content to reach wealthy travellers instead of relying only on traditional advertising.

Golf tourists are seen as very valuable visitors. Studies by the tourism office show they spend almost three times more than regular tourists and help create jobs in hotels, restaurants and transport. Golf also helps bring visitors during winter, when many golf courses in Europe are closed.

Morocco has more than 40 golf courses, many designed by famous golf course architects such as Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Kyle Phillips.

Rabat’s Royal Golf Dar Es Salam regularly hosts the Hassan II Trophy on the European Tour. Marrakech is considered the country’s main golf hub, with courses like Royal Golf Marrakech and Assoufid Golf Club. New seaside destinations such as Taghazout Bay and Saïdia Resorts combine beach tourism with golf.
