Toyota Morocco has launched the bZ4X, the brand’s first fully electric model in the country, as the local market for electric vehicles begins to grow.
The SUV arrives as Morocco pushes ahead with its shift to cleaner energy. Toyota is offering one high-spec “Long Range” version with front-wheel drive and a 73.1 kWh battery. The starting price is 529,900 dirhams and the company says it is aimed mainly at urban professionals looking for a reliable and connected electric car.

The bZ4X is built on Toyota’s dedicated electric platform, known as eTNGA, which is designed to improve stability and handling. The Moroccan version produces 224 horsepower and 269 Nm of torque and has a driving range of up to 525 kilometres under the WLTP test cycle.
The vehicle supports fast charging at up to 150 kW. Toyota says the battery can go from 10% to 80% charge in about 28 minutes. A battery pre-conditioning system helps maintain charging performance in temperatures between minus 10 and plus 25 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for different climates across Morocco.
Inside, the car includes a 14-inch touchscreen, a seven-inch digital instrument display and a nine-speaker JBL sound system. Safety features come under Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, including pre-collision systems, adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera.

The battery sits in the floor of the vehicle, which helps increase interior space. The wheelbase measures 2,850 mm, which is longer than the Toyota RAV4 and gives more legroom for passengers in the back. The battery is made by Prime Planet Energy & Solutions, a joint venture between Toyota and Panasonic. Toyota says it is designed to keep 90% of its capacity after 10 years of use.
The launch comes as Morocco expands renewable energy and aims to grow its electric vehicle industry. About 40% of the country’s electricity already comes from renewable sources, including the Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex. The government is also in talks about building battery factories, supported by Morocco’s reserves of cobalt and phosphates.
The bZ4X is part of Toyota’s “Beyond Zero” electric programme. The company has already introduced the bZ3 electric sedan and the bZ Compact SUV Concept, and plans to launch 30 fully electric models worldwide by 2030. Toyota says future models later this decade could use solid-state batteries, which may offer ranges of more than 1,000 kilometres and charging times of under 10 minutes.
