Morocco’s biggest bank Attijariwafa Bank has moved to expand its digital banking services by registering a new brand called “Simple”, a step that points to a wider push into mobile banking, digital payments and new financial technology services in 2026.
The brand was registered on 26 January 2026 under number 297014. It covers a wide set of services, suggesting the bank is planning a full digital ecosystem rather than a single app.
The “Simple” platform is expected to include mobile banking apps, downloadable software, online payment cards, digital wallets and electronic transfers. The idea is to bring several financial tools into one place for everyday use.
The registration also includes references to blockchain and cryptocurrency-related services. This signals that the bank is preparing for future digital asset services if regulations in Morocco allow it.
The approach follows a global trend where banks are moving toward simple, all in one platforms often called super apps. These combine payments, savings and other financial services in one system aimed at making banking easier for users.
Competition is also a key factor. Global fintech group Revolut has shown interest in expanding into Morocco in early 2026. That increases pressure on local banks to modernise their digital offerings.
The filing also suggests modular features such as Simple Pay and Simple Save, which point to a wider ecosystem where users can manage different financial tasks in one app.
The inclusion of blockchain is notable because Morocco’s central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib, has been cautious on crypto but is exploring a potential central bank digital currency. This suggests banks are preparing for possible regulatory change.
The move comes after strong financial results. In 2025, Attijariwafa Bank reported net income of 12.4 billion Moroccan dirhams, up 14.4 percent. Net banking income reached 34.9 billion dirhams, up 5.6 percent.
Digital activity is also rising across the sector, with transaction volumes hitting record levels and banks shifting more services online.
More than 95 percent of banking leaders are now focusing on digital transformation in 2026, as physical branches play a smaller role in day to day banking.
No launch date has been confirmed for “Simple”.
