The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) will hold its Ordinary and Extraordinary General Assembly on 5 June at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maamora. The meeting is seen as an important moment for Moroccan football.

Fouzi Lekjaa, the current president, is widely expected to be re-elected. He has led the federation since 2014, a period marked by major changes in Moroccan football.

Since he took office, Morocco’s national team ranking has improved from 81st to as high as 8th in January 2026. The team also reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, finishing in fourth place, the best result ever for an African or Arab country.

Morocco has also had strong results in continental competitions. The national team won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at home and secured three African Nations Championship titles in 2018, 2020 and 2024.

Investment in football infrastructure has also been a key part of his time in office. The Mohammed VI Football Complex, where the meeting will take place, is considered one of the top training centres in the world and cost around $65m.

Lekjaa also holds senior roles outside Morocco. He is First Vice President of the Confederation of African Football and a member of the FIFA Council, giving him influence at international level.

“Our objective is clear: to make the 2030 World Cup the best in history,” Lekjaa said during a meeting with international officials. “Morocco, Spain, and Portugal share a rich civilizational and cultural capital that provides every guarantee of success.”

The assembly comes as Morocco steps up preparations for the 2030 World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal. Lekjaa also leads the tournament’s organising committee and the Morocco 2030 Foundation.
