Morocco stays Africa’s top futsal team as FIFA releases new rankings

Morocco’s men’s futsal team is still ranked sixth in the world in the latest FIFA rankings. The team now has 1486.53 points after a run of strong results.

Morocco remains the clear leader in Africa. Egypt is ranked 40th and Libya 53rd in the world.

The top of the global rankings has not changed much. Brazil is still number one after winning the South American Championship. Portugal, Spain, Argentina and Iran make up the rest of the top five.

Morocco’s women’s futsal team is ranked 24th in the world. The team is still number one in Africa ahead of Tanzania and Senegal. Globally, the top six teams are Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Italy and Japan.

Morocco has several major tournaments coming up and continues to host big futsal events. The country will host the 2026 Futsal AFCON from 12 to 21 October. This will be the third time in a row the country hosts the tournament after 2020 and 2024.

Morocco will enter as defending champions after winning the last three editions in 2016, 2020 and 2024. Eight teams have qualified. Morocco will play Egypt, Angola and Libya, as well as first-time participants Algeria and Tanzania.

The 2028 FIFA Futsal World Cup will take place in South Korea from 7 to 29 October 2028. Morocco must finish in the top three at the 2028 Futsal AFCON to qualify. The host and dates of that tournament have not been decided yet. Morocco had also shown interest in hosting the World Cup.
