Damane Cash has launched a new payments brand in Morocco aimed at making it easier for businesses to accept digital payments.
The company, a subsidiary of Bank of Africa, announced Damane Payment in Casablanca as part of its plan to speed up the shift towards electronic transactions. The service has already been tested with local merchants over the past year.
The new brand is designed to simplify how shops and companies handle payments, whether they are small neighbourhood stores or larger businesses. It is also part of Morocco’s wider move towards a more digital economy.
Maha Kohen, Chairperson of the Management Board of Damane Cash, said the new brand builds on work already happening in the market.
“With Damane Payment, we are giving clearer visibility to an activity that is already well-anchored on the ground,” Kohen stated. “Our ambition is to accelerate our capacity to offer simple, accessible solutions that are truly adapted to the needs of merchants.”
Damane Payment brings together four main services. These include card payment machines used in shops, online payment tools for e-commerce, mobile payment options, and SoftPOS technology which turns a smartphone or tablet into a payment terminal.
The SoftPOS system is aimed at helping small traders accept card payments without needing extra equipment.
Damane Cash says the new brand fits into its wider plan to support digital growth in Morocco. The company already runs more than 5,000 service points across the country and also offers money transfers, bill payments, cash services and its mobile wallet Damane Pay.
