Morocco sold more goods abroad in the first four months of 2026, with exports reaching 168.85 billion dirhams, up 8.7% from the same period last year, according to figures from the Office des Changes.

The biggest boost came from the automotive industry, which remains the country’s top export sector. Car exports rose by 18.6% to 58.28 billion dirhams by the end of April.

The increase was mainly driven by higher vehicle production and wiring exports. Vehicle manufacturing exports jumped by 33.5% to 23.88 billion dirhams, while wiring exports grew by 16.1% to 22.09 billion dirhams.

The aerospace sector also had a strong start to the year. Exports rose by 15.9% to 11.03 billion dirhams, helped by a 20.7% rise in assembly activities and a 6.9% increase in electrical wiring systems.

Not all sectors saw growth.

Textile and leather exports fell by 6.7% to 13.87 billion dirhams, while electronics and electrical exports dropped by 3.5% to 5.5 billion dirhams. Exports of phosphates and related products were down by 1.5%.

Agriculture and food industry exports showed a small increase of 0.8%, reaching 36.84 billion dirhams.

While exports improved overall, imports grew even faster. Morocco imported goods worth 295.9 billion dirhams during the first four months of the year, up 12.7%.

Higher energy purchases and increased imports of industrial equipment and parts were among the main reasons behind the rise.

As a result, the country’s trade deficit widened by 18.4% to 127.05 billion dirhams. The export coverage rate fell from 59.1% to 57.1%.

Meanwhile, money sent home by Moroccans living abroad continued to rise. Remittances increased by 9.8% to 39.97 billion dirhams, providing an important source of foreign currency for the economy.
