More people are choosing Morocco for their holidays, with the country welcoming 7.7 million tourists in the first five months of 2026.

New figures from the Ministry of Tourism show visitor numbers were up 7% compared with the same period last year. May was particularly strong, with 1.7 million arrivals, a 13% increase from May 2025.

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor said the growth was the result of continued investment in flights, tourism facilities and the overall visitor experience.

“The tourism sector continues its positive momentum in 2026. The recorded results confirm the relevance of our strategy, which consists of simultaneously investing in connectivity, the tourism offering, and the overall experience. It is this vision that allows us to maintain a sustainable growth trajectory and strengthen the Kingdom’s attractiveness to travelers from all over the world,” she said.

The strong start to the year comes after Morocco welcomed a record 19.8 million visitors in 2025.

The increase is also boosting tourism income. Revenue from the sector reached 44.39 billion dirhams ($4.83bn) during the first four months of 2026, up 21.2% from a year earlier.

The government has been working to attract more visitors by increasing the number of international flights and promoting destinations beyond popular cities such as Marrakech and Agadir.

Airline capacity to Morocco now exceeds 12 million seats, around 30% higher than before the Covid pandemic. New routes, including direct flights between Atlanta and Marrakech, have helped bring in travellers from new markets.

Authorities are also investing in tourism infrastructure, including a 188 million dirham programme to develop 16 tourism villages and upgrades to natural attractions such as Toubkal and Ifrane National Park.

European markets remain a major source of visitors. Recent figures show tourist arrivals from Italy rose by 21%, while numbers from the UK increased by 18%, Spain by 12% and France by 11%.

Officials expect tourist arrivals to reach between 21 million and 22 million by the end of 2026, with a longer-term target of 26 million visitors by 2030.
