Morocco is taking another step towards bringing artificial intelligence into its healthcare system. The Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health (FM6SS) and ABA LIFE, the healthcare arm of ABA Technology, have signed a partnership agreement to create a joint venture focused on digital health and AI-powered healthcare solutions.
The new company will work on projects ranging from clinical AI and telemedicine to public health, biomedical engineering and disease monitoring. The first solutions are expected to be rolled out from October 2026.
The project comes as Morocco continues a major overhaul of its healthcare system. More than 90% of the population is now covered by compulsory health insurance, while health authorities are looking for new ways to improve access to care and deal with rising rates of chronic diseases.
The two partners say they want to support the entire healthcare sector, from research and training to technology development and patient care.
Their plans include more than 50 research programmes in artificial intelligence, precision medicine and the One Health approach by 2030. They also aim to publish 100 international research papers and launch an African Epidemiological Observatory by the end of 2026.
Telemedicine is another key part of the project. The partners hope to carry out more than 25 million remote consultations and expert consultations by 2030, helping people in areas where access to healthcare remains limited.
The venture will also focus on training. More than 100,000 healthcare workers are expected to receive training in the use of AI and digital health tools over the coming years.
The project also aims to support Moroccan startups working in HealthTech, MedTech and biotechnology, with a focus on developing technology locally.
Professor Lahcen Belyamani, President and Chief Executive of FM6SS, said the partnership aims to “connect academic, clinical and scientific excellence with industrial innovation capabilities” and help strengthen Morocco’s healthcare sovereignty.
Mohamed Benouda, founder of ABA Technology, said that “the convergence of medicine, engineering and artificial intelligence is becoming the foundation of tomorrow’s healthcare systems.”
The partners say the solutions will first be introduced in healthcare facilities across Morocco before being expanded to other African countries. Their goal is to help make Morocco a leading centre for digital health and medical AI in Africa.
