Morocco bought almost $300 million more goods from Türkiye in the first five months of 2026 than it did a year earlier. Türkiye sold $1.82 billion worth of goods to Morocco between January and May, up from $1.52 billion over the same period in 2025, according to the Adana Chamber of Industry (ADASO).
That was a 19.8% increase, lifting Morocco to 13th place among Türkiye’s biggest export markets. Morocco also made up a larger share of Türkiye’s total exports, rising from 1.58% to 1.87%.
In May alone, Turkish exports to Morocco reached $440.6 million, up from $342.6 million a year earlier. The 28.6% rise was the second biggest among Türkiye’s 20 largest export markets. Only Ukraine recorded stronger growth, while Egypt came third.
Türkiye’s exports to Morocco grew steadily through the year. They stood at $306.8 million in January, $315.5 million in February, $403.2 million in March, $353.6 million in April and peaked at $440.6 million in May. May accounted for almost a quarter of all Turkish exports to Morocco during the five months.
Morocco imported more Turkish goods than Belgium, which bought $1.80 billion, and Ukraine, at $1.77 billion. It remained behind Bulgaria, which imported $2.08 billion.
The rise came even though Türkiye’s overall exports fell. The country’s exports dropped 9.3% in May to $22.5 billion.
ADASO said: “Only four sectors, out of the 26 categories examined, increased their exports during the month.”
Industrial exports fell 9.6%, while agricultural exports were down 11%.
The automotive industry remained Türkiye’s biggest export sector with $3.26 billion in sales. Chemicals followed with $2.98 billion, while electrical and electronic equipment reached $1.48 billion.
Defence and aerospace was one of the few bright spots, with exports rising 33.9% to $992.2 million. Jewellery exports fell 48%, while automotive exports dropped 17.2%.
Overall, Türkiye exported $111.17 billion worth of goods between January and May, up 0.3% from a year earlier.
Figures from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), which exclude some special trade operations, warehouses and free zones, showed exports of $97.33 billion, up 1.2%. The top 10 export markets accounted for 47.1% of that total, while the top 20 made up 64.7%.
Only five of Türkiye’s 20 biggest export markets increased their purchases in May. Ukraine led with growth of 107.2%, followed by Morocco, Egypt (16.2%), Bulgaria (5.3%) and China (5.2%).
The report did not say which products Türkiye exported to Morocco.
While Türkiye’s exports to Morocco increased, exports from the Turkish province of Adana moved the other way.
Adana exported $5.9 million worth of goods to Morocco in May, down from $7.3 million a year earlier, a fall of 18.5%.
The report said: “Morocco ranks 12th and receives 2.3% of Adana’s monthly exports.”
Between January and May, Adana’s exports to Morocco fell from $18.7 million to $15.6 million, a drop of 16.6%. Morocco’s share of the province’s exports also fell to 1.1%.
That contrasted with Adana’s overall performance. The province’s exports rose 3.9% in May to $259.8 million and climbed 12.5% over the first five months of the year to $1.37 billion.
Chemicals were Adana’s biggest export, followed by textiles, automotive products, cereals and machinery.
The United States was Adana’s largest export market in May with $20.4 million, ahead of Germany at $19.5 million and Iraq at $17.9 million. Exports to Morocco were less than a third of those sent to the US.
