Airports of Morocco has launched Pax Check, a new system that lets passengers use a digital boarding pass on their smartphone to pass through airport checkpoints and reach the boarding gate.
Passengers first check in online through their airline’s app. They then receive a secure QR code on their phone instead of printing a boarding pass.
Airlines verify passengers’ identity and travel documents during online check-in, following current aviation rules. At the airport, passengers simply scan the QR code at security checkpoints and automated gates. The system checks their flight status, security clearance and seat reservation in real time.
Pax Check uses encrypted two-dimensional QR codes based on the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Bar Coded Boarding Pass (BCBP) standard. It also works with Advance Passenger Information (API) systems used by airlines before departure.
The system will be rolled out in stages. Only airlines that meet the required technical, operational and regulatory standards will be able to use it.

Airports of Morocco says the digital boarding pass is the first step towards a fully digital passenger journey. The system is also expected to reduce document handling, speed up passenger processing and help airports handle growing traffic while keeping safety and security standards in place.
Passenger numbers continue to rise. Moroccan airports handled 18.8 million passengers in the first six months of 2026, up 8.83% from a year earlier.
International traffic reached 16,835,752 passengers, an increase of 8.86%, while domestic traffic grew 8.6% to 1,995,709 passengers.
Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport handled 5,756,388 passengers during the same period, a 10.13% increase from the first half of 2025.
