Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Abdellah Ouazane has confirmed he will represent Morocco at international level. The 18-year-old announced it on Thursday after helping Ajax qualify for the Conference League with two assists in a 5-3 win over FC Sion in the second leg of their play-off.

“I have made my choice for Morocco,” Ouazane told reporters after the match.  “I discussed it at length with my parents and I am happy with my choice,” he added.

Ouazane already plays for Morocco’s Under-20 side and has represented the country since the Under-15 level.

“Everyone dreams of playing for their country. I started with Morocco’s Under-15s. In the end, you also aspire to join the first team,” he said.

“I think this step is getting closer and closer. I am waiting and doing my best. Who knows, maybe I will learn about my call-up.”

Ouazane was part of the Morocco side that won the 2025 Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations. He was also named the tournament’s best player.

The attacking midfielder has impressed during Ajax’s pre-season with his versatility, goalscoring ability and maturity.

He attracted interest from several major European clubs last season, including Real Madrid. He is under contract with Ajax until 2028.
