About 300 people living in villas and cabins at Bouznika Plage no longer have to leave their homes by 15 September. The eviction notices have been suspended while the government decides what will happen to the properties.
Ahmed Hakimi, president of the Bouznika Plage Association (ABP), told members in a letter that the notices should now be considered “without effect”.
The decision followed a meeting with the Ministry of Equipment and Water on Thursday, 27 August.
The government is now expected to decide on the future of the villas and cabins.
The dispute started in July, when bailiffs delivered notices to residents ordering them to leave the plots and return them to their original condition.
The administration said it could take legal action if residents refused to leave, including using the security forces to remove them.
The main issue is who legally owns the land.
The administration says residents built the villas and cabins on plots without individual land titles.
Residents reject that claim. They say their properties are not built on public maritime land.
