Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Minister André de Paula is in Morocco for talks on agriculture, trade and investment. The visit includes meetings with Moroccan officials, an economic forum in Casablanca and a planned agreement with OCP Nutricrops, part of the OCP Group. De Paula is taking part in the Brazilian-Moroccan Economic Forum in Casablanca on Thursday, 17 September. The event brings together government officials and business representatives from both countries.
The minister will travel to Rabat on Friday for a meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests. He will also meet representatives of the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA).
The visit will then move to Jorf Lasfar, where De Paula is scheduled to visit an OCP Nutricrops facility. MAPA, Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and OCP Nutricrops are expected to sign a protocol there.
Brazil has not released details of the agreement yet. The two sides have not said what the protocol will cover or how much money will be involved. More details are expected when it is signed.
Fertilizer is a major part of trade between Brazil and Morocco. Brazil is one of the world’s biggest agricultural producers but relies heavily on imported fertilizers for crops such as soybeans and maize.
Brazil imported about 2.97m tonnes of chemical fertilizers in August 2026 alone.
OCP Group is one of the world’s largest phosphate and fertilizer producers. Brazil is also one of its biggest markets, taking about 25% of the group’s fertilizer exports.
The relationship also includes agricultural research. OCP and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) have worked with Brazilian agricultural research body Embrapa on fertilizers and soil management adapted to Brazilian farmland.
The Moroccan trip follows a visit to Angola from 14 to 16 September. De Paula signed a memorandum of understanding there covering agricultural investment and production cooperation.
His Morocco visit ends on Friday, 18 September, after meetings in Rabat and the planned signing at Jorf Lasfar.
