Consumers and businesses in Morocco may see more government resources going towards market monitoring and consumer protection, after the proposed 2027 budget set aside 5 million dirhams for services responsible for overseeing competition and regulating markets. The money will be shared between three government departments, with the Interior Ministry receiving 4 million dirhams, or 80% of the total allocation, according to budget documents obtained by the Al Omk newspaper.
The Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy sector will receive 350,000 dirhams, representing 7% of the fund. A third government department listed in the treasury account will get the remaining 650,000 dirhams, or 13%.
The fund’s total budget stands at 5 million dirhams in both planned revenue and expenditure for the 2027 financial year.
The Interior Ministry will split its 4 million-dirham allocation equally between two areas of work. It will spend 2 million dirhams on supporting and upgrading central and regional administrative services, and another 2 million dirhams on shared services.
The budget table does not list any additional funding for salaries or unallocated expenditure under the ministry’s programme.
The money comes from a special Treasury account set up to support government services responsible for competition, market monitoring, consumer protection, market regulation and reserve savings.
The proposed allocations are part of the 2027 Finance Bill, which sets out the resources and planned spending for the account over the coming financial year.
