The Spanish press has expressed frustration over the administrative delays that led Chinese tire giant Sentury Tire to abandon its plans in Spain in favor of Morocco. After bypassing the Iberian Peninsula, Sentury Tire is now rapidly advancing towards inaugurating its state-of-the-art factory in Tangier’s free zone, with an ambitious goal of producing 12 million semi-steel tires annually for cars and light trucks.
A $490 million megaproject nearing completion
This monumental project, valued at $490 million, is in its final phase, with the first tire expected to roll off the production line by the end of September. This milestone marks a crucial step in the company’s development in Morocco.

According to the Spanish press, the funding for the final phase of the Moroccan plant’s construction was initially earmarked for a similar project in Galicia, Spain. Sentury Tire cited the swift progress of the Moroccan project, contrasting with the bureaucratic hurdles faced in Spain, as the reason for reallocating these resources.
