Tanger Med continues to make waves on the global stage, securing the 19th spot in Alphaliner’s ranking of the world’s top container ports for the first half of 2024. The Moroccan port has seen a significant surge in traffic, with a 13.4% increase in 2023.

This impressive performance places Tanger Med ahead of major maritime hubs like New York and Hamburg, which are now ranked 22nd and 23rd, respectively. The port has reached 95% of its nominal capacity, a milestone achieved four years ahead of its original target.

Tanger Med’s success highlights the vitality of the global port sector, driven by increased demand and stockpiling activities that have boosted container traffic in the first half of 2024. While the top ranks continue to be dominated by Asian giants Shanghai, Singapore, and Ningbo-Zhoushan, Tanger Med has solidified its position as a key player in the international maritime scene, reinforcing its strategic role as a hub connecting Africa, Europe, and the rest of the world.
