In response to the devastating floods that have hit the southeastern regions of the Kingdom, the government has unveiled a comprehensive rehabilitation plan. Heavy and exceptional rainfall has caused both loss of life and significant material damage across several provinces, including Errachidia, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Zagora, Figuig, Jerada, Taroudant, Tata, Tiznit, Guelmim, and Assa Zag. According to a statement from the head of government’s office, an estimated budget of 2.5 billion dirhams has been allocated to implement this ambitious recovery effort.
In line with the directives of King Mohammed VI, the government has swiftly mobilized all necessary resources—both human and logistical—to address the urgent needs of affected communities. Several key ministries have been brought into action to ensure the smooth and effective rollout of this large-scale operation.
The program’s focus will be on providing direct support for the reconstruction of homes and buildings that have been severely damaged, as well as on the rehabilitation of vital infrastructure. Roads, telecommunications networks, electricity and water distribution systems, and sanitation facilities will all be restored to ensure the return of essential services.
Additionally, special attention is being given to agricultural activities in the flood-ravaged zones. The plan includes repairing small- and medium-scale hydraulic structures crucial for irrigation, alongside financial support for livestock farmers who have lost their herds due to the floods. This aid aims to help them rebuild their livestock and restore the local agricultural economy.
This initiative is a reflection of the government’s deep sense of responsibility and its commitment to staying closely engaged with the needs of the population. The launch of the flood recovery program is not only a swift response to an immediate crisis but also a long-term investment in the sustainable development and resilience of these vulnerable regions.
