Aerodrive Engineering Services (AES), a rising Moroccan startup, announced on Wednesday the successful maiden flight of its military drone, “Atlas Istar.” Entirely designed and manufactured in Morocco, this cutting-edge drone marks a significant milestone in the nation’s defense innovation.

The Atlas Istar is a high-performance drone engineered for real-time surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition missions. Its advanced capabilities are set to bolster the operational effectiveness of the Royal Armed Forces, providing crucial support in both national and international defense efforts.

Founded in 2018, AES initially specialized in drone-related services before venturing into the design and manufacturing of its own aircraft. This ambitious shift underscores Morocco’s growing dynamism in high-tech industries and highlights the country’s capacity for innovation in advanced technological sectors.

To support the growth of the local defense industry, the Moroccan government recently announced the creation of two industrial zones dedicated to military equipment production. Revealed during the June 1st Ministerial Council, this initiative aims to attract foreign investments while fostering domestic expertise in defense technology.

This drive to build a robust local military industry is part of Morocco’s long-term strategic vision. The goal is to strengthen the country’s defense autonomy and reduce its reliance on imported weaponry. Spearheaded by the Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, this initiative reflects Morocco’s determination to achieve military self-sufficiency and become a key player in the global defense market.
