On October 28, 2024, in Rabat, a transformative partnership was signed between OCP Group and French energy giant ENGIE, marking a significant leap forward for Morocco’s green energy ambitions. The high-profile agreement, endorsed by both King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron, signals a mutual commitment to enhancing Morocco’s energy sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint in the industrial sector.

At the heart of this partnership lies an ambitious goal: to accelerate Morocco’s transition to renewable energy through key projects focusing on green hydrogen, green ammonia, energy storage, and desalination for agriculture. The alliance also promises to stimulate Morocco’s local economy by creating new opportunities in clean technology, the Cherifien Office of Phosphates (OCP) recently reported.

Mostafa Terrab, Chairman and CEO of OCP, emphasized that the collaboration aligns perfectly with OCP’s dedication to sustainable growth. “This partnership with ENGIE reaffirms our commitment to energy innovation and decarbonization. By combining our expertise, we’re enhancing OCP’s global competitiveness in renewable energies while building a sustainable legacy for future generations,” Terrab noted.

Catherine MacGregor, CEO of ENGIE, also expressed enthusiasm, calling the partnership a crucial step in advancing a shared vision of energy transition. She highlighted the importance of a comprehensive approach, stating that the agreement will “bring to life a common vision of the energy transition with an integrated, diversified approach to technological solutions.”

Beyond the four major industrial projects, the partnership also includes a research and innovation plan aimed at driving clean energy performance and opening doors for new advancements. This initiative aligns closely with Morocco’s national ambitions to become a leader in energy transition, reinforcing the country’s commitment to a sustainable future.
