Africa Triathlon Cup heads to Taghazout Bay this September

Taghazout Bay, the seaside resort north of Agadir, is gearing up to host the Africa Triathlon Cup on September 21 under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI. Around one hundred athletes from more than 25 countries are expected to compete, including two Moroccans chasing crucial points for both African and world rankings.

The competition is organized by the Royal Moroccan Triathlon Federation and Madaëf Sports & Events, the same team that staged the Triathlon World Cup Moulay El Hassan in Saïdia Mediterrania last June. Their ambition is clear: to cement Morocco’s reputation as a prime destination for top-tier international triathlon events.

With its modern infrastructure, striking landscapes, and pristine natural setting, Taghazout Bay is emerging as a new hub for African triathlon. Already famous for surfing, golf, and bodyboarding, the resort is now positioning itself as a hotspot for sports tourism.

The racecourse promises both intensity and spectacle, featuring 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling, and a 5-kilometer run. Tawenza Square will serve as the heart of the event, offering an open space for athletes and spectators to gather, exchange, and enjoy the competition in a convivial atmosphere.

On September 20, the day before the Cup, the Moroccan AG National Championship final will also be held at the venue. Staged over the Olympic distance—1.5 kilometers of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling, and 10 kilometers of running—the event will give young Moroccan athletes and amateurs the chance to compete at a professional level in a festive yet competitive setting.

The Africa Triathlon Cup is part of the official Africa Triathlon calendar, recognized by World Triathlon as the continent’s governing body. For up-and-coming athletes, it’s a crucial stepping stone to earn points, face international rivals, and raise the sport’s profile across Africa.

Through this event, the Royal Moroccan Triathlon Federation continues its mission to grow the sport nationwide by offering Moroccan athletes access to elite competition at home. Madaëf Sports & Events, meanwhile, reinforces its role as a key player in sports event management, placing both athlete and spectator experience at the center of its vision.
