Alstom expands Moroccan presence with €260M railway signaling deal

Alstom is deepening its footprint in Morocco with a major new contract to modernize the signaling systems on the key railway line connecting Kenitra and Settat. The total value of the agreement is estimated at €260 million, with €150 million allocated to the French group.

The project has been awarded to a consortium that includes Alstom, INEO Rail, and INEOLUM. Together, they will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive package that includes signaling, telecommunications, power supply, and cabling. Alstom will deploy its Onvia Control system, based on the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Level 1 standard. The goal is to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and boost the overall capacity of the line.

This work is part of a broader strategy to prepare the corridor for Morocco’s future high-speed rail line between Kenitra and Marrakech. The modernization efforts aim not only to streamline rail traffic on this strategic axis but also to support the country’s commitment to lowering the carbon footprint of its transportation network.

Alstom has been operating in Morocco for over a century and continues to play a pivotal role in the country’s railway transformation. The group has previously delivered the trams for Rabat and Casablanca, Prima locomotives, and the Avelia trains that run on Africa’s first high-speed rail line. Its industrial site in Fez manufactures Mitrac transformers and cabling components used in Alstom projects around the world.

With over 1,300 kilometers of Moroccan railway already equipped with its signaling technologies, Alstom has cemented its status as a key infrastructure partner in the country. On a global scale, the company’s track record includes more than 300 railway signaling projects, 25,000 Onvia onboard units, and over 23,000 kilometers of track outfitted with its systems.
