The American automotive giant Aptiv is reinforcing its foothold in Morocco with the inauguration of its eighth production facility, located in the industrial zone of Cité Mohammed VI Tanger Tech. This latest investment marks a significant milestone in the company’s industrial expansion within the North African nation.

Built on a six-hectare plot, Aptiv’s new factory represents an investment of nearly 450 million dirhams (approximately $45 million). Operations commenced this month with an initial workforce of 1,000 employees. The plant is expected to create over 3,000 jobs in the long run, positioning it as a crucial driver of local employment and regional economic growth.

Construction, which began in the summer of 2023, was completed in record time, showcasing the efficiency and strategic planning behind the project. The facility is operated under Aptiv Services Morocco, the legal entity overseeing the company’s Moroccan operations. It will cater to the growing global demand for automotive wiring systems, a key sector within the automotive industry.

Aptiv has been present in Morocco since 1999, making the country a cornerstone of its international strategy. Formerly known as Delphi, the company has steadily expanded its operations over the past 25 years. With this new addition, Aptiv now boasts 11 sites across Morocco, strategically located in cities such as Tangier, Kenitra, Meknes, and Casablanca.

Currently, Aptiv employs nearly 23,000 people across its Moroccan facilities, underscoring the country’s vital role in the group’s global network. During the inauguration ceremony, an Aptiv representative emphasized Morocco’s strategic importance, stating, “Morocco is one of our most dynamic and strategic markets outside of America and Europe. We are proud to further strengthen our operations here.”

Since its spin-off from General Motors in 1999, Aptiv has established itself as a global leader in automotive technology. With a workforce of over 200,000 employees across 138 manufacturing sites and 11 major technical centers, the company generated a consolidated revenue of $20 billion last year—an impressive 15% year-over-year growth.

Aptiv’s continued success is driven by its commitment to innovation and adaptability, values that are deeply reflected in its long-standing partnership with Morocco.

The opening of this new facility in Tanger Tech comes at a time when other automotive giants, such as the German firm Leoni, are also expanding their footprint in Morocco. With its modern infrastructure and strategic geographic location, the country is cementing its status as a key hub for the global automotive supply chain.
