Israeli airline Arkia has resumed direct flights between Israel and Morocco after a three-year break. The first flight from Tel Aviv to Marrakech left Ben Gurion Airport at 10:10 GMT on Wednesday. Flight records show that Arkia flight IZ25 arrived at Marrakech-Menara Airport later that day.

Arkia will run the route twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays. The flights will use Airbus aircraft, with tickets starting at around $299 to $329.

Airports of Morocco also listed an Arkia flight among arrivals at Marrakech-Menara on Wednesday.

The direct route first started in July 2021, about eight months after Morocco and Israel restored diplomatic ties under the Abraham Accords.

The flights were later suspended and did not return until this week.

The route could attract many Israeli travellers with family links to Morocco. About 700,000 Israelis are of Moroccan origin, according to Channel 12.
