AS FAR were held to a 1–1 draw by Egypt’s Pyramids FC in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.

The match was played at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, with Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan in charge.

AS FAR started strongly and pressed the Egyptian side from the opening minutes in search of an early goal.

Their pressure paid off in the eighth minute when Ahmed Hammoudan scored to give the Moroccan club the lead.

After conceding, Pyramids tried to respond but were repeatedly stopped by AS FAR’s defence and goalkeeper Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti. The first half ended with the Moroccan side ahead 1–0.

The Egyptian team returned more aggressively after the break and equalised in the 52nd minute through Mahmoud Abdel Hafiz Zalaka.

Neither side was able to find a winner in the remaining minutes, leaving the tie level at 1–1 after the first leg.

The return leg between Pyramids FC and AS FAR will be played next Saturday at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in Cairo.
