Attawfiq sets national benchmark in anti-money laundering standards

Attawfiq Microfinance, a subsidiary of Morocco’s BCP Group, has become the first microfinance institution in the country to earn the prestigious AML 30001 certification (2025 edition), awarded by the independent certification body Coficert. This recognition highlights the organization’s robust framework for combating money laundering and terrorist financing, reflecting the strength of its internal controls, compliance systems, and governance.

The certification process assessed the institution’s risk management practices, which were found to meet rigorous international standards. By achieving this milestone, Attawfiq signals its deep commitment to transparency, ethical finance, and long-term financial inclusion—key pillars in its operational model.

According to CEO Hicham Kharrou, this certification is not just a stamp of approval but a testament to the dedication of the organization’s teams and a reinforcement of its core mission: to expand economic inclusion through responsible and sustainable microfinance. He emphasized that the achievement affirms Attawfiq’s drive to uphold the highest standards in its operations, while staying focused on long-term impact.

With over 25 years of experience, Attawfiq Microfinance serves more than 300,000 clients through a nationwide network of 500 branches. Its current loan portfolio exceeds 4 billion dirhams, underscoring its scale and reach within the Moroccan financial ecosystem.
