Barid Al-Maghrib has become the first national operator allowed to provide qualified time-stamping services after receiving approval from General Directorate of Information Systems Security.
The move comes after the group received approval in January 2025 for its Barid eSign service, which issues electronic signature and seal certificates. Both approvals were granted under Law No. 43-20 on trust services for electronic transactions.
Barid Al-Maghrib said the new approval strengthens its role in Morocco’s digital system and gives public and private organisations a secure service with full legal value.
Qualified time-stamping uses strong encryption to prove that a digital document existed at a precise date and time and has not been changed since. The aim is to make online exchanges safer and more reliable.
The group said the service will help government departments and businesses move away from paper and speed up Morocco’s digital shift.
Barid Al-Maghrib launched Barid E-Sign in 2011 and has focused on digital trust services since then. By adding qualified time-stamping, the company now offers a wider range of tools to support online transactions.
Law No. 43-20 updated Morocco’s legal framework for digital transactions and brings it closer to international standards such as eIDAS Regulation. The law sets different levels of electronic signatures and time-stamps, with “qualified” services carrying the highest legal weight in court.
The DGSSI, part of Morocco’s National Defence Administration, is responsible for cybersecurity and digital trust. Its approval confirms that Barid Al-Maghrib meets strict security and infrastructure standards.
Qualified time-stamping is expected to help areas such as public procurement, banking and legal services by proving exactly when documents are submitted, signed or filed.
