Casablanca revives Dayet El Oulfa with green makeover

Casablanca is giving new life to the area surrounding Dayet El Oulfa, a long-overlooked wetland in the city’s southwest. After months of extensive renovation, this natural site is set to reopen with a completely reimagined design, the result of a 60 million dirham investment led by the city council.

Once neglected, the basin has undergone a full transformation. The shoreline has been reshaped, a network of walking and biking paths now winds through the landscape, and new rest areas have been added. Energy-efficient lighting has been installed, along with amenities that blend seamlessly into the natural surroundings, all designed with both comfort and environmental harmony in mind.

This initiative is part of a broader push by local authorities to expand green spaces throughout Casablanca and improve residents’ quality of life. Beyond its recreational value, the project also serves a key ecological purpose. Special efforts have been made to restore native plant species and improve water quality, ensuring the site supports local biodiversity.

As construction wraps up, city officials say the reopening is just around the corner. The municipality hopes the revitalization of Dayet El Oulfa will serve as a model that can be replicated in other neighborhoods or cities across the region.
