Casablanca is gearing up for a major green initiative: the transformation of El Oulfa Pond into a sprawling ecological urban park. This ambitious project aims to enhance green spaces and elevate the quality of life for residents in the bustling Hay Hassani district.
Once overlooked and neglected by authorities, the Dayat El Oulfa site will soon undergo a significant rehabilitation effort, backed by an investment of 13 million dirhams. The plan is to convert this neglected area into an inviting and accessible green oasis.
Mayor Nabila Rmili unveiled the vision for this initiative, describing it as one of Casablanca’s most impactful urban development projects for 2025. She emphasized that transforming Dayat El Oulfa into Morocco’s largest urban eco-park reflects the city’s commitment to sustainability and community well-being.
A centerpiece of the plan includes the construction of two bridges—one elevated and one at ground level—that will seamlessly connect different parts of the park. These structures will offer panoramic views, providing visitors with a scenic escape from the city’s concrete sprawl.
In addition to its scenic features, the park will also offer a wide range of recreational facilities. There will be dedicated sports areas to encourage fitness and leisure activities, as well as lush gardens designed to provide visitors with a natural retreat. An observatory will showcase the region’s rich biodiversity, emphasizing the importance of preserving local ecosystems. The pond itself will be opened up to neighboring gardens, creating a harmonious flow between the water and surrounding greenery.
The City Council has described the project as a model for sustainable development. By combining environmental preservation with improved public spaces, Casablanca hopes to set a benchmark for modern urban planning. The initiative is expected to foster greater environmental awareness, community engagement, and provide much-needed recreational space in one of the city’s busiest districts.
