Casablanca-South train station: a game changer for urban transit

The future “Casablanca-South” train station, whose construction was officially launched Wednesday by King Mohammed VI in the Hay Hassani district, represents a major milestone in the modernization of urban transportation across Morocco’s economic capital. Designed as a community-centered transit hub, the station is expected to significantly improve daily commuting in a city long burdened by traffic congestion.

Mohamed Rabie Khlie, Director General of the National Railway Office, emphasized the practical benefits of this upcoming rail terminal. Trains running through the station will be fast, frequent, and affordable, offering a reliable alternative for thousands of residents traveling between home and work each day.

According to Khlie, a single train will have the capacity to take as many as 1,300 cars off the road, easing pressure on the city’s gridlocked streets while helping to cut down on emissions. The system will launch with three lines operating on a tight schedule. One route will connect the Grand Stade Hassan II with Benslimane and Mohammed V Airport. Another will link the stadium directly to Casa-Port, the city’s central station. A third line will run from Casa-Port to the airport.

Trains on these routes are expected to run every 7.5 minutes, drastically reducing wait times and making rail travel a practical daily option for commuters. In addition, an express line connecting Casa-Port to Mohammed V Airport will offer limited-stop service every 15 minutes, targeting passengers traveling to and from the city’s main air terminal.

The launch of Casablanca-South is part of a broader investment initiative totaling 20 billion dirhams, spearheaded under the King’s leadership. The national plan includes expanded regional service to cities like El Jadida and Settat, as well as the construction of new stations and maintenance centers to support the growing network.
