Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences has officially opened its doors in Agadir, marking its first academic year on the new southern campus. The inauguration, which took place in the presence of Souss-Massa regional governor Said Amzazi, represents a major step in expanding access to medical and health-related education in southern Morocco.

This new campus, developed by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Health and Science, is part of a broader national effort to train more healthcare professionals and strengthen Morocco’s regional healthcare systems. The programs offered here are designed to be hands-on and directly aligned with the practical needs of the country’s evolving healthcare sector.

In addition to its medical school, the Agadir campus hosts two specialized institutions. The Mohammed VI School of Health Science Engineering focuses on digital technologies in healthcare and biomedical equipment maintenance, preparing students for technical and engineering roles in the medical field. Meanwhile, the Mohammed VI Faculty of Nursing and Health Professions offers a diverse array of training programs—from radiologic techniques to anesthesia and surgical care—catering to various careers in patient care.

Lahoucine Barrou, who serves as both dean of the medical school and director of the campus, emphasized that these programs are carefully tailored to meet the aspirations of students while also addressing the practical demands of Morocco’s healthcare infrastructure.

This educational expansion is part of a larger vision. By 2027, the Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex is expected to open in Agadir. With 324 beds and advanced medical technology, the facility will not only boost regional healthcare services but also serve as a vital hub for clinical training and research for students enrolled at the university.
