Casablanca will host the first edition of GITEX Future Health Africa from 4 to 6 May.
The event is organised by Morocco’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health and KAOUN International. It will be held under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI.
Organisers say the event reflects Morocco’s efforts to modernise its health system and support stronger healthcare systems across Africa.
Health ministers from several African countries, government officials, international organisations, scientists, companies, startups and investors are expected to attend.
The three-day programme will include conferences, workshops and an exhibition space focused on innovation.
Topics due to be discussed include artificial intelligence in healthcare, telemedicine, hospital information systems, data interoperability, cybersecurity and the regulation of medical AI. Financing and scaling digital health projects will also be a key focus.
More than 300 exhibitors from Morocco and abroad are expected to take part, alongside 200 startups and around 100 international investors.
Morocco’s Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, said digital technology and data are central to the country’s health reforms.
“Guided by the enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has chosen to make digital technology, data and artificial intelligence the drivers of a decisive qualitative leap in its health system. Technology is a structural lever to improve the quality of care, optimise the allocation of resources and guarantee territorial equity. With GITEX Future Health Africa, Morocco fully assumes its role as a catalyst for an innovative and sovereign African digital health ecosystem.”
Youns Bjijou, deputy director of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health, said meeting the health needs of Africa’s growing population requires more than infrastructure.
“Responding to the health needs of a constantly growing African population cannot be limited to an issue of infrastructure. It is about building an integrated ecosystem based on training, research, innovation and equitable access to care. GITEX Future Health Africa embodies this convergence between scientific knowledge, breakthrough technologies and public policies, to accelerate the implementation of concrete and sustainable solutions for the populations of the continent.”
Trixie LohMirmand, chief executive of KAOUN International, said the launch of the event in Morocco marks a strategic step for healthcare development in Africa.
“The launch of GITEX Future Health in Morocco represents a strategic step in the evolution of African health systems towards integrated and technologically advanced models. This platform aims to promote cross-border partnerships and accelerate innovation in order to sustainably improve healthcare performance and outcomes across the African continent.”
