CGEM delegation heads to South Korea to boost economic partnerships

A high-level delegation from Morocco’s General Confederation of Enterprises (CGEM) is currently in Seoul on a business mission aimed at deepening economic ties with South Korea and identifying new opportunities for collaboration. The visit, which runs through June 13, is part of a broader strategy to position Morocco as a key partner for South Korean industries seeking access to African and European markets.

Led by CGEM President Chakib Alj, the delegation includes leading figures from several strategic sectors of the Moroccan economy, including automotive manufacturing, agribusiness, mining, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and advanced technologies. The mission reflects Morocco’s ambition to expand its international partnerships and attract new investment into high-growth areas.

The delegation’s first stop was the Incheon Free Economic Zone, where officials were welcomed by Commissioner Wonsok Yun. Home to over 300 international companies, the zone showcased its dynamic industrial and research ecosystem, offering Moroccan representatives a close-up look at one of South Korea’s most vibrant economic hubs.

As part of the visit, the group toured Incheon’s smart city control center, a state-of-the-art facility that has been operating for more than a decade. The center manages a wide range of urban services in real time, from traffic and public safety to environmental monitoring and infrastructure maintenance—demonstrating how integrated technology can shape smarter, more efficient cities.

Earlier in the trip, the Moroccan delegation visited the Samsung Innovation Museum in Suwon. The museum highlights the tech giant’s evolution, from its early days in home appliances to its current role as a global leader in digital innovation.

The remainder of the mission includes high-level meetings with prominent South Korean business organizations such as the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). Several sector-focused sessions and one-on-one business meetings are also scheduled, giving Moroccan and South Korean companies a chance to explore joint ventures and strategic alliances.
