Chikaya.ma: giving a voice to Moroccans abroad

The chikaya.ma platform continues to serve as a vital communication bridge between the Moroccan government and its citizens living abroad. Since the start of the year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received 1,345 submissions through the portal, all coming from Moroccan nationals residing outside the country.

These online complaints span a wide range of issues. A significant portion involves consular services, with many users expressing concerns about the complexity or quality of procedures at embassies and consulates. Other messages deal with civil status matters or more sensitive personal situations. Some involve requests for help in resolving legal disputes—both civil and criminal—while others raise concerns about financial, tax, or property-related problems.

When a case falls within the Ministry’s jurisdiction, it handles the matter directly. Issues outside its scope are referred to the appropriate government bodies or to the Hassan II Foundation, which supports Moroccan expatriates. In particularly complex situations, the Ministry also works with the Office of the Ombudsman to improve responsiveness and coordination.

Looking ahead, a new system backed by the Mohammedia Foundation is expected to enhance how these complaints are managed. The initiative aims to create a more structured and coordinated response mechanism between different agencies, ultimately speeding up the resolution process and improving how the needs of Moroccans abroad are addressed.
