The official launch of a massive new textile factory in Fez marks a major shift for both the region and Morocco’s industrial future. Backed by Chinese conglomerate Sunrise through its subsidiary EUWEN TEXTILES, this large-scale venture stands as one of the most significant textile investments the country has ever seen.
Spanning 20 hectares and representing a total investment of nearly 1.4 billion dirhams, the facility will bring together every stage of textile production under one roof-from spinning and printing to garment manufacturing. This integrated approach is expected to create around 3,000 direct jobs and another 1,500 indirect ones, injecting fresh momentum into the social and economic fabric of the Fez-Meknes region.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour emphasized the project’s strategic importance. He described it as a defining moment for Morocco and a major step toward industrial sovereignty. According to Mezzour, this single factory has the potential to triple the country’s textile production capacity-a game-changer for the sector.
Morocco’s textile industry already generates around 60 billion dirhams in annual revenue and employs over 42,000 registered workers. The arrival of a global player like Sunrise signals a new chapter-one focused on high-tech manufacturing and sustainable practices. More than 80% of the plant’s output is destined for export markets, although it will also help meet local demand.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the factory will integrate renewable energy sources and water recycling systems, reflecting a strong commitment to environmentally responsible production. At the same time, it aims to restore Fez’s historical role as a hub for textile innovation and manufacturing-a legacy the city once proudly held.
Khalid Aït Taleb, the regional governor (Wali), highlighted the broader significance of the project, calling it a cornerstone of the region’s economic transformation. He underlined the importance of productive investment in creating long-term jobs and added value, aligning with the strategic vision of King Mohammed VI for inclusive, sustainable development.
By mid-December 2025, private investment approvals in the Fez-Meknes region had already reached 18 billion dirhams, translating into more than 18,000 new jobs. The launch of this mega-factory reinforces the region’s growing reputation as an investment destination. With its strategic location, modern infrastructure, access to major ports, and a skilled workforce, Fez-Meknes is quickly positioning itself as a rising star in Morocco’s industrial landscape.
