Ciments du Maroc, a subsidiary of Heidelberg Materials, announced today a significant strategic move: the acquisition of a 62.62% stake in Asment de Témara, a leading cement and ready-mix concrete producer, along with 99.99% of Grabemaro, a key player in the aggregates sector. Both companies were previously owned by Votorantim Cimentos.
This acquisition marks a crucial step in reinforcing Ciments du Maroc’s dominance in the Moroccan cement and ready-mix concrete market. The company aims to broaden its reach and solidify its role as a leader in the sector, as outlined in an official statement from the company.
With control over Asment de Témara and Grabemaro, Ciments du Maroc will now manage an impressive infrastructure that includes a cement plant with a 1.4 million-ton capacity, eight ready-mix concrete plants capable of producing 510 m³/h, and two aggregate production sites with a total annual output of 1.6 million tons.
In addition to expanding its portfolio, Ciments du Maroc will gain a stake in the Société Marocaine de Broyage et de Recyclage de Matière (SMBRM), of which Asment de Témara holds 48.99%. SMBRM operates a cutting-edge platform for processing and repurposing local industrial waste, offering an eco-friendly solution that reduces environmental impact and optimizes energy costs for production.
“This acquisition aligns with our medium- and long-term strategic vision to strengthen our position in the Moroccan construction materials market, while also acquiring new expertise,” said Mohamed Chaïbi, Chairman of the Board of Ciments du Maroc.
Severin Weig, Managing Director of Ciments du Maroc, added, “By integrating Asment de Témara, we expand our national cement footprint, reinforce our presence in a strategically vital region, and bolster our ready-mix concrete and aggregates operations. This will allow us to support the dynamic growth in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region.”
The completion of this acquisition is subject to the approval of Morocco’s Competition Council, as well as other contractual conditions agreed upon by the parties involved.
