Coca-Cola expands in Morocco with high-tech, eco-friendly plant upgrade

Equatorial Coca-Cola Bottling Company Maroc marked a major milestone this Monday with the launch of two new production lines at its COBOMI factory, located in the Mohammed V Technopark in Nouaceur. The move represents a 715 million dirham investment, part of a broader 3.2 billion dirham commitment the group is making in Morocco between 2020 and 2025.

With this expansion, the plant’s annual output capacity will rise by 40%, boosting production of both soft drinks and bottled water. The new lines feature cutting-edge technologies focused on energy efficiency, safety, and quality control, positioning COBOMI as one of the most advanced Coca-Cola production sites on the African continent.

Sustainability is central to this development. The factory is aiming to power over 60% of its operations using renewable energy, blending solar and wind sources. It has also introduced modern water treatment and industrial optimization systems, all in line with the company’s ambition to reduce its environmental footprint.

The inauguration ceremony drew high-profile attendees, including Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, and Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills. They were joined by company executives and institutional representatives to celebrate what was described as a transformative project. Both ministers praised the initiative as a clear signal of investor confidence in Morocco’s industrial sector and in the broader vision of King Mohammed VI. They also highlighted the project’s positive impact on job creation and workforce development.

To date, ECCBC employs over 2,200 people in Morocco. This latest expansion alone has led to the creation of 419 new direct jobs. In 2024, the group reported a turnover of approximately 7 billion dirhams.

Farid Benchekroun, General Manager of ECCBC Maroc, said the project underscores the company’s deep integration into Morocco’s industrial landscape and its long-term commitment to sustainable manufacturing and local economic development. CEO Alfonso Bosch echoed that sentiment, calling Morocco a strategic hub for the group and home to its African headquarters. He also emphasized that around 80% of the company’s supply chain is sourced locally.

With this expansion, ECCBC reinforces its position as a key player in Moroccan industry while advancing its ESG strategy, which centers on carbon reduction, responsible sourcing, and community engagement.
