In a significant move to streamline customs procedures, Morocco’s Customs and Indirect Tax Administration (ADII) and Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP) have jointly launched a new instant payment system aimed at facilitating the transit of goods for non-resident individuals. This innovative system allows travelers to guarantee the required customs duties and taxes on their transit declarations with greater ease and efficiency.
The newly implemented payment solution is now available across BCP’s extensive network of branches, including key border points such as El Guergarat and the Tangier Med Port. Under this system, non-residents can deposit the guarantee amount in Moroccan Dirhams upon entering the country and reclaim it at the exit customs office once their obligations have been fulfilled.
This initiative, which stems from a strategic partnership sealed in 2024, reflects the shared commitment of ADII and BCP to digitalize foreign trade procedures. The overarching goal is to simplify administrative processes and enhance the efficiency of customs operations, making cross-border trade more seamless and transparent.
According to the joint statement, the rollout of this system will be conducted in phases, eventually covering all customs clearance offices involved in transit operations. The progressive expansion of this initiative aims to facilitate compliance for travelers and businesses alike, offering a practical solution for smoother cross-border movements.
By embracing technological advancements and fostering collaboration between public and private sectors, Morocco continues to position itself as a hub for efficient and modern trade facilitation, aligning with global best practices.
