Morocco’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection is preparing to recruit 8,000 staff in 2026 to strengthen the country’s healthcare system, according to documents seen by local media and confirmed by multiple sources.

The figure is a sharp increase on previous years and is roughly double the number recruited in 2019. It comes as health services face growing pressure from expanding infrastructure and rising demand for care.

The plan aims to reduce waiting times, support new hospital projects and offset upcoming retirements. It also forms part of wider efforts to improve healthcare coverage nationwide.

Around 1,000 positions will be allocated to medical residents, focusing on specialised training to improve treatment of complex cases. This aligns with the gradual rollout of regional health groupings.

Recruitment will be distributed based on regional needs. Beni Mellal-Khénifra and Drâa-Tafilalet will each receive 650 posts. Marrakech-Safi and Souss-Massa will get 600, while Fès-Meknès and the Oriental region will have 550 each. Casablanca-Settat and Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra are set to receive 500 posts, compared with 400 for Rabat-Salé-Kénitra. Guelmim-Oued Noun and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab will receive 300 and 200 respectively.

The hiring drive will cover a wide range of roles, including general practitioners, specialists, nurses, midwives, health technicians, as well as administrative and technical staff.

Regional authorities will refine allocations further based on local needs, including integrating graduates from paramedical and vocational training programmes.

The rollout is already under way. Regional proposals are due by the end of March 2026, with national exams scheduled for 12 May for residency and 2 June for internships.
