DP World has officially launched its first dedicated maritime route for fresh produce exports from Morocco to the United Kingdom and mainland Europe. The new weekly service, named “Atlas,” sets sail from Agadir and aims to streamline the transport of Moroccan agricultural goods by offering a faster, greener alternative to road freight.
The inaugural vessel is scheduled to dock at London Gateway on November 30, followed by a stop in Antwerp the next day. With this launch, DP World is creating a more dependable and sustainable logistics corridor that enhances traceability and environmental efficiency. According to the company, shipping by sea could reduce carbon emissions by up to 70% compared to traditional trucking routes.
Every week, shipments of tomatoes, peppers, blueberries, and citrus fruits—sourced from Morocco’s major farming regions—will be delivered to key logistics hubs in Europe. The service will rely on Unifeeder vessels, a subsidiary of DP World, and a state-of-the-art fleet of refrigerated containers. These advanced containers ensure that the produce maintains peak freshness throughout the entire journey, from loading to delivery.
Over the course of a year, the new sea route is expected to shift as much as 150,000 tonnes of cargo from road to sea, translating to a significant reduction in emissions—approximately 250 kilograms of CO₂ saved per tonne-kilometer. On top of the environmental benefits, the route is equipped with a real-time digital tracking system, giving exporters full visibility over their shipments from departure to arrival.
To support this new corridor, DP World has also expanded its container fleet, adding over 1,700 new units—both refrigerated and dry—to increase capacity. On the return leg, ships will stop in Casablanca and Antwerp before heading back to Agadir, reinforcing the loop and maximizing logistical efficiency.
Morocco already exports more than 1.1 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables to Western Europe each year, with the volume growing by more than 10% annually. This new maritime connection is designed to support that momentum, providing local producers with a more competitive and sustainable path to European markets.
For DP World, the launch of Atlas is part of a broader effort to integrate Morocco more deeply into global supply chains. The company sees the country as a strategic hub for the distribution of fresh goods—not just within the region, but across the continent.
